Alice Fearn and Sophie Evans will take on the central roles in the hugely successful Wicked at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre from Monday 24 July.
Fearn (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Shrek The Musical), who originally joined the West End production last year as Standby Elphaba will step into the role she understudied alongside show newcomer Sophie Evans as Glinda.
Evans, who shot to fame as runner-up in the Andrew Lloyd Webber TV talent search Over the Rainbow, previously visited Oz as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium.
Other new cast members will include Bradley Jayden who will play Fiyero, the character he is currently playing in the show’s international touring production; Melanie La Barrie (Matilda, Mary Poppins) who will play Madame Morrible; and Andy Hockley (The Phantom of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) who will step up as The Wizard.
Boq will be played by Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts graduate Jack Lansbury in his West End debut and Laura Pick will take over as Standby for Elphaba. They will join current cast Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Sarah McNicholas (Nessarose) and Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda).
The newcomers will take over from Willemijn Verkaik (Elphaba), Suzie Mathers (Glinda), Oliver Savile (Fiyero), Sue Kelvin (Madame Morrible), Mark Curry (The Wizard) and Idriss Kargbo (Boq) who will all play their final performances on Saturday 22 July.
From Monday 24 July 2017, the full cast for the London production will be Alice Fearn (Elphaba), Sophie Evans (Glinda), Bradley Jaden (Fiyero), Melanie La Barrie (Madame Morrible), Andy Hockley (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Sarah McNicholas (Nessarose), Jack Lansbury (Boq), Laura Pick (Standby for Elphaba), Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda), and Jennie Abbotts, Ashley Birchall, Nicole Carlisle, Nicholas Corre, Conor Crown, Kerry Enright, Aimée Fisher, Joseph Fletcher, Alexandra Grierson, Katy Hanna, Tom Andrew Hargreaves, Olivia Kate Holding, Claudia Kariuki, Will Lucas, James McHugh, Danny Michaels, Ellie Mitchell, Rosa O’Reilly, Matt Parsons, Alex Pinder, Sam Robinson, Paulo Teixeira, Samantha Thomas, Hannah Toy, Russell Walker, Sasha Wareham and Libby Watts.
Based on the bestseller by Gregory Maguire which took its inspiration from the creations of L. Frank Baum brought so vividly to life in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, the production at the Apollo Victoria Theatre is taking bookings up to May 2018.
Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy award winner Stephen Schwartz and was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. Musical staging is by double Tony Award winner Joe Mantello.
Now in its 11th year in the capital, Wicked is currently the 17th longest-running show in West End theatre history. The touring version of the show will make a welcome return to the UK next February to play ten UK and Ireland cities.
The multi-award winning tale of the witches of Oz has now been seen in London by more than seven million people and by 50 million people in 14 countries and has won over 100 major awards.
