Amy Lennox will play Cathy opposite Fra Fee as Jamie in Jason Robert Brown’s award-winning musical The Last Five Years at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast from 24 June to 4 July 2015, replacing the previously-announced Laura Tebbutt who is no longer available for the run.
Lennox will then go straight into rehearsals for the UK premiere of Kinky Boots where she plays the female lead Lauren. Kinky Boots opens at London’s Adelphi Theatre on 15 September 2015. The actress’ theatre credits include Doralee in the 9 to 5 UK tour, Soho Cinders (Soho Theatre), Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde UK tour and The Sound of Music (London Palladium).
The timing of Lennox’s schedule has been fortuitous for the Belfast-based Blunt Fringe who is producing this musical which premiered in the UK at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2006. The production company launched in 2014 and already has worked with a number of musical theatre stalwarts including Philip Rham and Joanna Strand who were part of their production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris last year.
Fra Fee read music at the University of Manchester before training at the Royal Academy of Music and becoming an associate of the academy in 2014. He is currently starring as Romeo in Romeo & Juliet at the Gate Theatre, Dublin. Other theatre and film credits include Les Misérables (Palace Theatre), A Man of No Importance (Salisbury Playhouse), Candide (Menier Chocolate Factory) and Courfeyrac in Tom Hooper’s film adaption of Les Misérables.
This production is directed by Stephen Whitson whose current projects include Little Women (Old Rep Theatre, Birmingham) and Elegies (Criterion Theatre, London). Musical direction is by Mark McGrath and design by Conleth White.
