West End veteran Arlene Phillips will take audiences on a trip through her star-studded career in a new touring production to be launched at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The stage and screen choreographer who won a new generation of fans as an acid-tongued judge on the original series of Strictly Come Dancing is the subject of ARLENE! The Glitz. The Glamour. The Gossip.
Presented by Emma Brunjes Productions, the show will feature Phillips in anecdote-sprinkled conversation with former student and fellow choreographer Jacquie Storey.
ARLENE! will open at Assembly Checkpoint Edinburgh on Tuesday 22 August where it will play until Saturday 26 August. It will then move onto Brighton Theatre Royal (5 September); The Dancehouse, Manchester (20 September); the Tivoli Theatre, Wimborne (26 September); Camberley Theatre (12 October); Wyvern Theatre, Swindon (13 October); Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury (22 October); Melton Theatre, Melton Mowbray (25 October); The Haymarket, Basingstoke (1 November); Royal Spa Centre, Leamington Spa (2 November); Mercury Theatre, Colchester (8 November); Blackpool Winter Gardens (16 November) and the Duchess Theatre, London (20 November).
The show will trace a star-crammed, four decade stage and screen career that has taken Phillips from the days when she first hit the headlines, as the creator of the risqué dance troupe Hot Gossip, to West End success with her innovative choreography for shows including Starlight Express and for music videos for stars including Whitney Houston, Queen and Robbie Williams.
