Award-winning choreographer and TV personality Arlene Phillips will gather together some of the biggest names in dance for a gala performance to raise funds for the survivors of the Grenfell House fire.
The Gala For Grenfell at the Adelphi Theatre on Sunday 30 July will unite dancers from across the world in a fundraiser for those families who were directly affected by the tragedy.
Created and directed by Phillips, the event will feature a host of stars and leading dance companies.
Announcing the special one-night only event, Phillips said: “I remember waking up in the morning and thinking ‘here goes another day’, only to switch on the TV to watch the news and suddenly see an image so powerful you can’t move, knowing so many lives have been changed forever.
“As the days went by I began to wonder if there was a way that I could help, maybe even make a small difference, and I thought dance is my world, my life, so how could I galvanise and bring the dance community together to raise funds for those who need it most, now and into the future.”
The big names expected to appear on the night include: the Royal Ballet featuring Edward Watson; stars from TV’s Strictly Come Dancing; Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures; The Mariinsky Ballet, featuring Xander Parish; dancer and choreographer Akram Khan; Ballet Black; Rambert; and stage and screen star Adam Garcia.
The line-up is also expected to include Rina Kanehara and Aitor Arrieta (the winners of the English National Ballet’s Emerging Dancer 2017 award); Danny Collins and Rachel Muldoon who will perform Drew McOnie’s choreography from last year’s Jekyll & Hyde; innovative dance team Tommy Franzen and Xena Gusthart; Zoonation; and the winners of ITV’s Dance Dance Dance, Jonny Labey and Chrissie Brooke.
