Bertie Carvel latest guest to join Jason Robert Brown concert line-up

Bertie Carvel is the latest performer to join the guest list for Jason Robert Brown’s concert at the Royal Festival Hall

Hailed as ‘one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim’, three-time Tony Award-winning composer, lyricist, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, director and performer Jason Robert Brown will present a very special show today (26 May 2015) at London’s Royal Festival Hall, showcasing some of his best loved work.

Tony Award-nominated Bertie Carvel, currently the star of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell on BBC1, has been announced as the final special guest for the concert. Also taking the stage, Broadway and West End sensation Willemijn Verkaik (Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Wicked), Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple, I Can’t Sing!), Eleanor Worthington Cox (youngest ever recipient of a Laurence Olivier Award), Laura Pitt-Pulford (The Sound of Music) and West End stars Oliver Tompsett and Matt Henry who will all bring his scores to life with a full orchestra.

Highlights will include the highly praised The Bridges of Madison County, the recently revived The Last Five Years, 13 (which brought Brown to London in 2012 as both composer and director) and the seminal Parade.

Other standout work includes Songs For a New World, a theatrical song cycle which played Off-Broadway in 1995, and has since been seen in hundreds of productions around the world, and Honeymoon in Vegas, based on Andrew Bergman’s film, which ran on Broadway this year.

Jason Robert Brown said: “It is long past time for me to come back to London! I have so much new music to share, and I have missed the love and support that I always get from my fans in the UK. I cannot wait to get on the stage of this amazing hall with some truly extraordinary singers and players – I have a feeling it will be well worth the wait!”

Brown has continued to capture audiences across the capital. Having debuted at the Purcell Room at the South Bank Centre, he then went on to play two sold out shows at the West End’s Garrick Theatre, and now presents his very first show at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall.
