Party of One, performed by Christina Bianco, continues at Assembly George Square Gardens – Spiegeltent Colombino until 16 August.
Star rating: four stars ★ ★ ★ ★
The New York-based Christina Bianco possesses a powerful and thrilling voice, but it is ironically the voices of other artists that people have come to enjoy. Bianco is a very talented impersonator and this brilliant show revolves around the influences in her life that have made her “a party of one”.
We hear how her innate ability to mimic friends and familys started at a very early age, and then we are walked through an alphabetical journey of Bianco imitating her favourite divas. The comic highlights are her unorthodox music pairings, like Julie Andrews singing ‘Bang Bang’ by Jessie J. Even a reading of Barbra Streisand’s design book brings out some of the evening’s best moments, particularly her Keira Knightley and Penelope Cruz impressions. There’s even some British favourites in her set list, including Bubbles from Absolutely Fabulous and Elaine Paige.
The show is not without its minor failings. As talented as Bianco is, some of the impression are a little off. Notably her Madonna and Amy Winehouse. Regardless, it’s still a mostly flawless experience. Bianco’s range is impressive, going from blues to operatic high notes, and her comic timing is spot on. She is indeed ‘Every woman’ in this show. Catch it before it ends 16 Aug.
