The full cast for the Union Theatre’s revival of Closer to Heaven, the musical by Jonathan Harvey and the Pet Shop Boys which opens later this month has been announced.
Alex Lodge (Titanic, Saturday Night Fever) will play the central role of Straight Dave, with Molly McGuire (Carrie –The Musical) as Shell, Jonathan David Dudley (Joseph, the film version of Les Misérables) as Mile End Lee, David Habbin (Les Misérables, West Side Story) as Vic, and Nic Kyle (The Grand Tour) as Bob.
Returning to the roles they played in the show’s previous run at the Union are: Katie Meller (The Phantom of the Opera, Blood Brothers) as Billie Trix and Ben Kavanagh as Flynn. The cast also includes Tilly Ford, Daniel James Greenway, Keira Marner, Ellie Mitchell, Anthony Starr and Philip Towne.
Director Gene David Kirk (Me & My Friend, The Two-Character Play, Orwell: A Celebration) leads a creative team that includes: choreographer Philip Joel, musical director Patrick Stockbridge, designer David Shields and casting director Adam Braham. The show is produced by Kylie Vilcins for Paul Taylor-Mills Ltd, by special arrangement with The Really Useful Group.
The musical tale of a young Irishman who finds himself at the heart of Soho’s vibrant club-scene has a book by the multi award-winning Jonathan Harvey (Beautiful Thing, Corrie!, Hushabye Mountain, Canary, Babies, Boom Bang a Bang, Rupert Street Lonely Hearts Club), with music and lyrics by Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe.
Originally premiered at the Arts Theatre in 2001, Closer to Heaven received its first London revival at the Union Theatre earlier this year. The new production opens on 21 October and runs until 28 November.
