Danny Mac to star in Sunset Boulevard tour

DANNY MAC 84Danny Mac is to star as Joe Gillis in the forthcoming UK and Ireland tour of Curve’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning musical Sunset Boulevard. Ria Jones is to play Norma Desmond and the show is to be directed by Nikolai Foster.

Sunset Boulevard will open at Curve on Saturday 16 September 2017 (press night is 28 September), before touring the UK and Ireland. Full casting is to be announced shortly.

Most recently Danny Mac appeared on BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, making it all the way to the final. This month he stars as Gabey in On the Town at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. His other musical theatre credits include Wicked and Legally Blonde.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Sunset Boulevard, based on Billy Wilder’s legendary film, has book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.

Last year, Jones played the role of Norma Desmond at the London Coliseum when Glenn Close was indisposed, receiving rave reviews and standing ovations for her performance.

Ria Jones has recently starred as Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Her West End credits include Fantine in Les Misérables, Grizabella in Cats and Florence in Chess. Her touring credits include Alex in The Witches of Eastwick, Mrs Overall in Acorn Antiques – The Musical, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes and The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Director Nikolai Foster is artistic director at Curve, one of the UK’s leading regional theatres. His work at Curve includes Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing and Truman Capote’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s, both on tour and in the West End; A Streetcar Named Desire and the musicals Grease and Legally Blonde. He directed the hugely successful recent production of Annie.

Following the run at Curve, the tour continues to the Edinburgh Playhouse (3-7 October); Newcastle Theatre Royal (9-14 October); Manchester Palace (23 October to 4 November); His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (6-11 November); Birmingham Hippodrome (13-18 November); Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin (20-25 November); Milton Keynes Theatre (28 November to 2 December); Bristol Hippodrome (9 January 2018-13 January); Mayflower Southampton (16-20 January); New Victoria Theatre, Woking (22-27 January); Cliffs Pavilion, Southend (29 January-3 February) and Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (5-10 February).

The UK and Ireland tour of Sunset Boulevard is presented by Michael Harrison and David Ian.
