A concept album has been released to coincide with the world premiere run of Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae’s Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at Sheffield Theatres, running until 25 February (and opening tonight, 13 February).
Featuring vocals from cast members John McCrea (The Busker’s Opera, Park Theatre), Josie Walker (War Horse, West End) and Gillespie Sells, along with additional vocals from Sophie Ellis Bextor and Betty Boo, the album is available to buy from Sheffield Theatres and via iTunes.
Revealing his inspiration for the recording, Gillespie Sells said: “Our director, Jonathan Butterell, said to me when we started working on Everybody’s Talking About Jamie ‘write a concept album’. So, that’s what I did. Producing this album was my way of arranging and honing the music for the show. It was a very important part of the process and we are delighted to share it.”
Described as a ‘coming-of-age story with a twist’, the major new work was written by singer songwriter Sells, the lead vocalist of rock band The Feeling and stage and screenwriter MacRae.
Butterell heads a creative team that includes designer Anna Fleischle, choreographer Kate Prince, musical director Tom Brady, lighting designer Joshua Carr, sound designer Paul Groothuis, casting director Will Burton CDG and assistant choreographer Kirstie Skivington.
The cast also includes Mina Anwar, Tamsin Carroll, Charles Dale and Lucie Shorthouse.
