Musical Theatre Review’s official photographer Roy Tan has taken a selection of exclusive images of hit musical Evita which has returned to the West End.
Presented by Bill Kenwright for a strictly limited 12-week season, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi award-winning musical continues at the Phoenix Theatre until 14 October.
This year’s Eva is played by West End rising star Emma Hatton who has already won acclaim for her performances in a number of major musical theatre roles including Wicked’s Elphaba and as Scaramouche and Meatloaf in We Will Rock You.
Directed by Kenwright and Bob Tomson, the production also features leading Italian performer Gian Marco Schiaretti as Che. Schiaretti arrived in London fresh from his recent run in the title role in Disney’s Tarzan in Stuttgart.
The cast is completed by Oscar Balmaseda, Sarah O’Connor, George Arvidson, Lewis Barnshaw, Jessica Ellen, Callum Fitzgerald, Kellie Gnauck, Dominic Adam Griffin, Joe McCourt, Jude Neill, Jordan Oliver, Chrissie Perkins, Oliver Slade, Matias Stegmann and Yuval Zoref.
Billed as the ‘theatrical event of the summer’, the production is designed by Matthew Wright, with choreography by Bill Deamer and sound design by Dan Samson.
With more than 20 major awards to its credit, and an Oscar winning film version starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas, Rice and Lloyd Webber’s Evita features a much-loved score including the songs ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, ‘On This Night of a Thousand Stars’, and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’.
