Full casting details for Flowers for Mrs Harris, Daniel Evans’ final production as Sheffield Theatres’ artistic director, have been announced.
The new musical by Richard Taylor (The Go-Between, Tom’s Midnight Garden) and Rachel Wagstaff (Birdsong, Moonshadow), based on American writer Paul Gallico’s (The Poseidon Adventure) novel is due to have its world premiere at the Sheffield Crucible in May.
Clare Burt (This is My Family, London Road) will return to Sheffield Theatres to take on the title role alongside Moyo Akandé (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sunshine on Leith), Anna-Jane Casey (Company, Sweet Charity), Rebecca Caine (Living on Love, The Phantom of the Opera), recent Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate Luke Dale (The Lover’s Melancholy), David Durham (Jesus Christ Superstar tour, The Lion King), Louis Maskell (My Fair Lady, West Side Story tour), Mark Meadows (High Society, Betty Blue Eyes), Laura Pitt-Pulford (The Sound of Music, Piaf) and Nicola Sloane (My Fair Lady, Me and My Girl).
Actor/director Evans, who is due to leave his post as artistic director of Sheffield Theatres this year after seven successful years at the helm, will direct Flowers for Mrs Harris before he takes up his new role as artistic director of the Chichester Festival Theatre.
The creative team for the production which runs from 18 May until 4 June includes designer Lez Brotherston, musical director Tom Brady, lighting designer Mark Henderson, sound designer Mark Walker, movement director Kay Shepherd, assistant musical director Peter Wilson and casting director Charlotte Sutton.
