Kenwright brings Norris’ Cabaret back to Blackpool

image001Rufus Norris’ acclaimed revival of Cabaret is heading back to the Blackpool Opera House as part of a nationwide tour.

Presented by Bill Kenwright, the show which previously played the seaside venue in 2013 when the show featured former Pop Idol Will Young as the Emcee, will return to Blackpool from Tuesday 3 until Saturday 7 October.

Directed by National Theatre artistic director Norris and featuring the Olivier Award-winning choreography of Javier de Frutos, the production has enjoyed two West End runs at the Lyric (in 2006) and the Savoy (in 2012).

Casting and other venue details for the tour are yet to be announced.

Based on the 1939 book by Christopher Isherwood and the play by John Van Druten, Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

The show’s Broadway debut in 1966 was followed by its first appearance in London’s West End two years later with Judi Dench taking on the role of Sally Bowles.

Bob Fosse’s film version in 1972 collected eight Oscars including the Best Actress award for Liza Minnelli’s iconic and career-making performance as Sally Bowles.
