Marcus Collins has pulled out of the 2015 tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He had been cast in the role of Narrator alongside Lloyd Daniels’ Joseph and Matt Lapinskas in the role of the Pharaoh.
A statement on producer Bill Kenwright’s website states: “We have been advised by his agent that Marcus Collins has withdrawn from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Marcus was contracted to appear from 3 February up to 6 June 2015, but he did not show up for rehearsals and then subsequently withdrew altogether. Without ever performing. No reason has been given by Marcus or his management.
“As this is an ongoing matter, no further comment is available at this time.
“However, we are very pleased to confirm that the production continues as scheduled with Lloyd Daniels as Joseph and Matt Lapinskas as Pharaoh.”
Collins, who was mentored by Take That star Gary Barlow, finished as runner-up on The X Factor 2011, pipped to the post by winners Little Mix. In 2013 he joined the cast of Hairspray playing the role of Seaweed Stubbs.
The role of Narrator will now be played by Rebekah Lowings. A permanent replacement is expected to be announced soon.
Bill Kenwright’s production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s family musical begins a new tour tonight (4 February 2015) at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham .
