The Olivier Awards with MasterCard have today announced that Michael Ball will host this year’s awards ceremony. The awards, which this year celebrate their 40th anniversary, will be presented at a star-studded ceremony on Sunday 3 April at the Royal Opera House.
Michael Ball, the celebrated musical theatre star, is a two-time Olivier Award-winner whose career in the West End and on Broadway has spanned more than three decades. Ball won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2008 for Hairspray and in 2013 for Sweeney Todd, and previously co-hosted the awards in 2011 and 2012.
Ball will also host the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard Nominations Announcement which takes place at noon on Monday 29 February at Rosewood London, the Olivier Awards’ official hotel partner. The announcement will be live streamed at www.olivierawards.com.
Voting has now opened for the Magic Radio Audience Award. The award, created to celebrate London’s long-running shows, is the only category voted for entirely by members of the public. This year there are 16 eligible shows for which theatre fans from across the world are able to vote.
