Musical Theatre Network has announced that the winner of its first ever Development Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been won by Middle Child Theatre with the show Weekend Rockstars.
The award was announced as part of the Scotsman Fringe Awards ceremony; and a real boost was provided to the winners with the news that an anonymous donor had increased the award on offer from £1,500 to £5,000.
Jodi Myers, chair of Musical Theatre Network, said: “There was a lot of talent on display in our shortlist, but the judges were all agreed that Weekend Rockstars was a particularly exciting and contemporary show reaching out to a new audience. We are incredibly grateful to our donor for allowing us to increase our award; and we hope that this financial support, together with the development support provided by our partner Curve Leicester, will make a real contribution to Middle Child Theatre’s next steps.”
Paul Smith, artistic director for Middle Child Theatre, said: “We are over the moon to have won and can’t wait to sit down with Musical Theatre Network and Curve Theatre to discuss our plans with them. This award is going to make such a difference to what we are able to do now.”
