New Legally Blonde tour – Lucie Jones, Rita Simons and Bill Ward to star

Lergally Blonde The Musical the 3 leadsThis year’s UK Eurovision singer, Rent’s Lucie Jones will join former soap stars Rita Simons and Bill Ward in a major new tour of the Broadway and West End hit Legally Blonde The Musical.

The Welsh Singer, currently in the middle of the UK tour of the 2oth anniversary production of Rent and due to perform the ballad ‘Never Give Up On You’ at the Eurovision Song Contest on 13 May, will play the central role of Elle Woods.

She will be joined by ex-EastEnder Simons who will take on the role of Paulette Bonafonte with former Coronation Street and Emmerdale star Ward as Professor Callahan.

Directed and choreographed by Anthony Williams, the tour will open at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley from 18-23 September before touring the UK and Ireland until June next year.

The creative team also includes co-choreographer Dean Street and musical supervisor/musical director James McCullough.

Produced by Martin Dodd for UK Productions Ltd, the tour will feature two canine stars – a diminutive Chihuaha called Bruiser and a much larger dog called Rufus. Although Rufus has already been cast, the producers will hold auditions in every town and city on the tour to find a local ‘Bruiser’.

The cast includes: David Barrett (Emmett), Liam Doyle (Warner), Laura Harrison (Vivienne), Helen Petrovna (Brooke), Ben Harlow (Kyle), Nancy Hill (Enid), Rebecca Stenhouse (Margot), Delycia Belgrave (Pilar), Rachel Grundy (Serena), Lucyelle Cliffe (Elle’s Mom), Rosie Needham (Kate Chutney), Alexandra Wright (Leilana), Sally Frith (Gaelen), Mark Peachey (Elle’s Dad/Winthrop/Dewey), Michael Hamway (Aaron), Felipe Bejarano (Sundeep/Nikos), Brett Shiels (Grand Master Chad), Connor Collins (Carlos), Emma Prosser (swing), Craig Tyler (swing) and Bruisey (Bruiser).

After its Bromley opening run, the tour will visit High Wycombe Swan, Bristol Hippodrome, Woking New Victoria, Northampton Derngate, Rhyl Pavilion, Sheffield Lyceum, Wolverhampton Grand, Southampton Mayflower, Cardiff New Theatre, and Edinburgh Festival Theatre.

Following a Christmas break, the tour will start again at Belfast Grand Opera House on 26 February 2018; before continuing to Dublin Bord Gais, Stoke Regent Theatre, Canterbury Marlowe Theatre, Norwich Theatre Royal, Leeds Grand Theatre, Blackpool Grand Theatre, Sunderland Empire, Glasgow Kings Theatre, Aberdeen His Majesty’s, Inverness Eden Court, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Birmingham Alexandra Theatre, Salford Lowry, Liverpool Empire, Brighton Theatre Royal, and Wimbledon New Theatre.

Based on the much-loved Reese Witherspoon film which in turn was based on the novel by Amanda Brown, the musical version of Legally Blonde features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach.

The show debuted on Broadway in 2007 and earned seven Tony nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations during its Broadway run. Arriving in the West End two years later, it was nominated for five Olivier Awards winning three including Best New Musical.
