Former Emmerdale star Deena Payne will join the UK tour of Our House to replace Linda Nolan who has withdrawn from the show following her recent cancer diagnosis.

Best known for her long-running role as Viv Hope in the ITV soap, Payne’s stage work includes three tours of Calendar Girls and the original West End production of They’re Playing Our Song.

The actress will take on the role of Kath Casey in the Olivier Award-winning Madness musical alongside newly announced cast members Jason Kadji (Mary Poppins tour) in the central role of Joe Casey and Sophie Matthew (Magic of the Musicals) as the girl of Joe’s dreams, Sarah.

Confirming her casting in the production Payne said: “My thoughts are with Linda, and we all send her lots of love at this very unsettling time. Though I know she’d want the madness to continue, and I’m thrilled to take on the challenge. Great songs, brilliant story – a real fun-loving musical!”

First staged at the Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End from October 2002 to August 2003, Our House won the 2003 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

Presented by Immersion Theatre Company and Damien Tracey Productions, the tour – running from 10 August until 25 November – will be directed by Immersion Theatre’s James Tobias and choreographed by the resident choreographer of Matilda The Musical, Fabian Aloise.

Opening at Crewe Lyceum from 10-12 August, the tour will then visit Sheffield, Llandudno, Weston-Super-Mare, Skegness, Malvern, Hastings, Glasgow, Swansea, Blackpool, Bridlington, Bromley, Portsmouth, Coventry, Weymouth, and High Wycombe.
