Wicked star Rachel Tucker will follow up her triumphant nine-month Broadway run and her recent return to the show’s West End 10th anniversary cast by heading out on her first solo UK tour.
Tucker, who has played Elphaba longer than any other actress in the multi award-winning production’s history, will take a break from the green make-up to perform in a brand new show at venues across the UK.
The Northern Irish singer first attracted national attention as a finalist on the BBC talent search for Nancy in Oliver!, I’d Do Anything. Although she lost out to Jodie Prenger she won praise from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh and went on to perform at Lloyd Webber’s Birthday in the Park Show in London’s Hyde Park.
Tucker’s West End debut came after she was offered the role of Meat in We Will Rock You. In 2010 she stepped onto the stage for the first time as Elphaba in Wicked, a role she would eventually also step into on Broadway from August 2015.
Launching at MAC in Belfast on 13 May, the tour will take in dates at The Gate in Cardiff (19 May), the Gala Theatre in Durham (29 May), the Grand Theatre, Lancaster (30 May), The Apex in Bury St Edmunds (31 May), the Capitol Theatre in Horsham (3 June), London’s Live At Zedel (5, 6, 7 June) and Pizza Express Live, Birmingham (9, 10 June).
Directed by Tucker’s husband, Guy Retallack, with musical direction by Kris Rawlinson, Tucker’s debut solo show is described as an ‘intimate and unique’ with a mixture of musical theatre favourites, classic jazz and soul and a ‘few surprises thrown in’.
The tour is presented by Fane Productions in partnership with Parallel Productions.
