Rehearsals have begun for Fiasco Theater’s innovative production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory.
The US theatre company’s production, featuring the original US cast, arrives in the UK fresh from critical success in New York where it received the 2015 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Revival.
Cast members Jessie Austrian, Noah Brody, Paul L. Coffey, Andy Grotelueschen, Liz Hayes, Claire Karpen, Patrick Mulryan, Vanessa Reseland, Ben Steinfeld and Emily Young are preparing for the UK premiere next month.
Using ten actors and multiple musical instruments the production, which re-imagines Sondheim and Lapine’s magical creation, is directed by cast members Brody and Steinfeld.
The creative team also includes music supervisor Matt Castle, choreographer Lisa Shriver, set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Whitney Locher, lighting designer Christopher Akerlind, sound designer Darron L West, music supervisor Matt Castle and musical director Evan Rees.
The show will play the Menier Chocolate Factory from 1 July until 17 September.
Fiasco Theater is an ensemble theatre company created by graduates of the Brown University/Trinity Rep M.F.A. acting programme. Their previous productions include Cymbeline (TFANA/Barrow Street), Measure For Measure (New Victory), The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Folger/TFANA) and Twelfth Night. Cymbeline was presented Off-Broadway twice, for nearly 200 performances, and won the 2012 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival.
