Singer and author of Cabaret Secrets, Gary Williams, has launched a series of free training videos for cabaret singers.
His book, on ‘how to create your own show, travel the world and get paid to do what you love’, has helped hundreds of new and seasoned cabaret performers fine-tune their shows. Now, in this series of videos he offers 15 quick tips.
Cabaret is enjoying a resurgence on both sides of the Atlantic with clubs like New York’s 54 Below and London’s Pheasantry doing better than ever. Artistic Director of London’s Live At Zédel, James Albrecht, told Williams his problem was finding enough artists who understood cabaret to meet the demand.
Cabaret masterclasses are hard to find, as Williams explains: “When I started out in cabaret there was nowhere to go for help so unsurprisingly I made a lot of mistakes.”
Together with some of the industry’s movers and shakers, he set out to share as much knowledge as possible and make the path to cabaret as smooth and rewarding as possible.
Williams’ book was called “a fascinating insider’s handbook” by the The Times while Playbill called it “an invaluable guide”.
As well as the book, Williams has created almost 80 free podcasts with people like Michael Feinstein, Steve Ross and Marilyn Maye.
You can find the podcasts and the new videos at www.cabaretsecrets.com.
