The premiere of Sleepless the musical, based on Nora Ephron’s hit movie Sleepless in Seattle, has been postponed until next year at the earliest.
A statement from the producers of the show, which was due to open at Plymouth’s Theatre Royal in April ahead of dates at The Lowry in Salford and Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre prior to a possible West End run, cited “illness within the producer’s family and overwhelming unexpected circumstances”. No further details were revealed.
The press release went on to state that the “producer hopes to have further news of the future of the production next year”.
With a book by Michael Burdett, music by Robert Scott and lyrics by Brendan Cull, the world premiere run of the show was due to be directed Morgan Young.
Featuring Danny Mac, Carley Stenson, Jennie Dale and Cory English, the show was due to be unveiled in Plymouth on 1 April.
Based on the hit romantic drama Sleepless in Seattle, the second film to feature the popular pairing of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, the Theatre Royal Plymouth production of the world premiere of Sleepless was due to be presented by Michael Rose and David Shor, in association with Marc Toberoff and the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin.
