The creepy and kooky The Addams Family musical will debut in the UK next year when a major new touring production opens at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre.
Directed by Matthew White (The Producers UK tour) the UK and Irish premiere of the show, which has a book by the creators of the multi-award winning Jersey Boys (Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice), will launch in Edinburgh on 20 April 2017.
Based on the much-loved characters created by Charles Addams and with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish), the original Broadway production opened in 2010. Starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, the multi-million-dollar production won four Broadway.com audience awards.
The Broadway production closed at the end of 2011 and there were a number of international and touring productions of the show, including a US tour also in 2011 and a European premiere in Sweden in 2012.
Presented by United Theatrical, Aria Entertainment and Music & Lyrics Limited in association with the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, The Addams Family will play the Festival Theatre until 29 April before heading for Northampton’s Royal & Derngate (9-13 May).
The tour will then move on to Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre (23-27 May); the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend (30 May-3 June); Birmingham Hippodrome (6-10 June); Hall for Cornwall, Truro (20-24 June); Nottingham Theatre Royal (27 June-1 July); Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (4-8 July); Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (18-29 July); Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (1-12 August); Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin (15-26 August) and The Lowry, Salford (29 August-9 September).
