Following a sell-out run at London’s Waterloo East Theatre in August, new British musical The Bakewell Bake Off will transfer to the Landor Theatre on 8 October 2013 (officially opening on 10 October).
The action throws the spotlight on seven eager contestants, three feuding judges and one bewildered hostess all taking part in a high-pressure village baking competition. “Come and join the folk of Bakewell for their annual bake off,” says the pre-publicity, “where signature bakes combine with song and dance in a fantastic feast of fun.”
The Bakewell Bake Off began as a project at the Guildford School of Acting, where a group of MA Musical Theatre performance students decided to write and perform an original musical. Inspired by the BBC’s phenomenally successful The Great British Bake Off, they set out to create a piece that gently satirised modern Britain while celebrating all things ‘cake’.
The cast includes recent GSA graduates Cerys Alley, Tom Beynon, Lucy Emmott, Will Ferris, Katherine Glover, Victoria Humphreys, Emily Jeffreys, Maura Matlak, Alexandra Spalding, Tim Stuart and Kayleigh Thadani.
The Bakewell Bake Off is written by the Baking Committee, directed by Julian Woolford (currently head of Postgraduate Musical Theatre at GSA) and choreographed by Kayleigh Thadani and Nicole Tiffany Rushing. The musical director is Kevin Michael Cripps. It is produced by The Baking Committee. The musical runs at the Landor Theatre from 8–26 October.
