The Toxic Avenger heads to the Arts Theatre for strictly limited season

TA_A3_Arts_4 (003)(1)Hit Off-Broadway rock musical The Toxic Avenger will follow its London debut at the Southwark Playhouse last year with a transfer to the Arts Theatre this autumn.

Directed by Benji Sperring, the European premiere production of the show – based on a 1980s cult classic sci-fi comedy film from genre filmmakers Troma Entertainment – will play a limited 10-week season from 28 September.

Inspired by Troma’s co-founder Lloyd Kaufman’s distinctive creation, The Toxic Avenger The Musical features a book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music and lyrics by Bon Jovi’s David Bryan, the team behind the quadruple Tony Award-winning Memphis. The Toxic Avenger made its stage debut Off-Broadway in 2009 when it was nominated for a number of major awards.

Last year’s Southwark Playhouse production was nominated for six Off West End awards including Best New Musical.

Prior to the London season the UK version of the bizarre love story will play a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Produced by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Derek Nichol and Paul Walden for Flying Entertainment, the production’s creative team includes musical director Alex Beetschen, lighting designer Nic Farman and choreographer Lucie Pankhurst.

Casting is to be announced.
