West End performers Oliver Tompsett (Wicked, We Will Rock You) and Debbie Kurup (Chicago, The Bodyguard) will headline a brand new British production of The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kander and Ebb, which will play a limited run of four nights only from 5–8 July at The Pheasantry in Chelsea.
The World Goes Round, an enchanting revue which showcases gems from Kander and Ebb’s Broadway back catalogue, features songs from shows such as Cabaret, Chicago, Flora the Red Menace, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink, 70 Girls 70, The Act and more. These include the favourites ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘New York, New York’, all accompanied by a live onstage band.
Tompsett is best known for playing Fiyero in the West End production of Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, Galileo in We Will Rock You at the Dominion and Drew in Rock of Ages at the Garrick. Recently, he guested for the Tony Award-winning American composer Jason Robert Brown at the Royal Festival Hall. A popular concert artist in his own right, he has also released an album, Sentimental Heart.
Kurup, who has previously played Velma Kelly in the West End production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago, returns to London following her acclaimed portrayal of Reno Sweeney in the Sheffield Theatres and Stage Entertainment UK tour of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes, prior to which she played Nicki Marron in the West End production of The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre.
Joining Tompsett and Kurup in The World Goes Round are newcomer Steffan Lloyd-Evans (UK tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Godspell), and Pheasantry regulars Alexandra Da Silva and Sally Samad whose previous stints at the venue in Been On Broadway, SMASHing and their own solos shows La Petite Divatante and White Witch Wailing have garnered praise amongst cabaret lovers and musical theatre aficionados alike.
From the producers of the acclaimed Notes From New York series, Idina Menzel’s award-winning UK tour and the previously sold out Pheasantry revue Been On Broadway, which subsequently received a West End concert engagement and upcoming original cast album, The World Goes Round has music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, is devised by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman and David Thompson, and is produced by Neil Eckersley with musical direction by Kris Rawlinson.
