Full casting has been announced for Park Theatre’s production of tick, tick…BOOM!, the autobiographical rock musical that traces Jonathan Larson’s creation of his multi-award winning Rent.
Taking on the central role of Jon, Chris Jenkins returns to Park Theatre following his appearance in 2016’s quadruple Offie (Off West End Theatre awards) nominated musical The Burnt Part Boys in PARK90.
Gillian Saker (TV’s Ripper Street) takes on the role of Jon’s girlfriend Susan, with Jordan Shaw (Motown The Musical, Shaftesbury Theatre) playing the part of Michael, Jon’s childhood friend.
Containing 14 songs, 10 characters, three actors, and a band, the show (directed by Bronagh Lagan) will play the Finsbury Park venue from 3-27 May with a press night on 8 May.
Produced by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Joe C. Brown, the creative team includes musical director Gareth Bretherton with set and costume design by Nik Corrall, lighting design by Ben Rogers and casting by Jane Deitch.
First performed Off-Off-Broadway in 1990 as a solo workshop show by Larson entitled Boho Days, the writer changed the title to tick, tick…BOOM! before performing it at various New York venues in the early 1990s.
Larson performed the piece as a rock monologue, but after his death in 1996 his college friend and producer Victoria Leacock asked Pulitzer Prize-winning David Auburn (Proof) to reconfigure the show. With the monologue transformed into a three-actor musical with one actor playing Jon and the other two playing Michael and Susan as well as the seven other characters, the revised version of the show premiered Off- Broadway in 2001.
