Based on the tragic true tale of the luxury liner that sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, the show has a Tony Award-winning score by Maury Yeston (NineGrand Hotel) and a Tony Award-winning book by Peter Stone (KeanWoman of the Year).

Earlier this year while in Japan directing a new version of his London hit, Grand Hotel, Southerland said: “I am incredibly excited that Titanic will set sail for London again. Having created the production in the intimate setting of Southwark Playhouse, it will be wonderful to see Maury Yeston’s epic musical at such close proximity again.

“Having since opened productions of the show in major theatres in Japan and Canada, it really feels like the show is coming home, allowing us to board the ship again and experience the events and passengers as they travel on their fateful journey.”

Southerland heads a creative team at the Charing Cross Theatre that includes choreographer Cressida Carré who will be responsible for the musical staging; musical director Mark Aspinall; set and costume designer David Woodhead; lighting designer Howard Hudson and sound designer Andrew Johnson.

Eight of the original cast members have returned to the show: Scarlett Courtney, Matthew Crowe, Sion Lloyd, Shane McDaid, Philip Rham, Dudley Rogers, Victoria Serra and Judith Street.

They are joined by: David Bardsley, Alistair Barron, Helena Blackman, Scott Cripps, James Gant, Luke George, Douglas Hansell, Rob Houchen, Claire Machin, Jessica Paul, Peter Prentice and Dom Simpson.

The Southwark Playhouse production, which will play the Charing Cross Theatre until 6 August, is co-produced by Danielle Tarento, Steven M. Levy, Sean Sweeney and Vaughan Williams.
