Casting has been announced for the London Fringe premiere of the Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 The Musical ahead of its debut at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in late summer.
Based on the hit 1980s movie which starred Queen of Country Parton, the show will play the Highgate Village venue from 30 August through to 1 October with a press night on 1 September.
With music and lyrics by Parton, the lively musical comedy features a book by Patricia Resnick based on the screenplay by Resnick and the director of the original film Colin Higgins.
A comic battle of the sexes involving three female office workers who get the better of their sexist, egotistical boss, the musical attracted 15 Drama Desk Award nominations and four Tony Award nominations when it ran on Broadway in 2009.
Directed by Joseph Hodges, the Upstairs at the Gatehouse production will feature a cast that includes Amanda Coutts (We Will Rock You, Footloose), Pippa Winslow (The Sound of Music, Sister Act) and Louise Olley (Dreamboats and Petticoats, Allegro) in the roles played in the film by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Parton.
Leo Sené (Ghost) will play the women’s sexist and egotistical boss Franklin Hart Jr, with Samantha Giffard (Little Shop of Horrors) cast as his adoring sidekick Roz Keith. Matthew Chase (Stiles & Drewe’s Peter Pan) will play Joe with Samuel Knight (as Dwayne/Dick), Mark Houston (as Josh/Tinsworthy) and Rachel Ivy (Margaret) completing the cast.
Produced by JH Entertainment, the Gatehouse production will feature musical direction by Oliver Hance, choreography by Chris Whittaker, lighting design by Tom Turner, sound design by Chris Drohan and casting by Harry Blumenau.
