The magical musical Wicked has unwrapped a Christmas bonus for theatregoers by adding three extra festive matinees at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre.

With curtain-up at 2.30pm, the extra shows will be on Thursday 22 December, Monday 26 December and Thursday 29 December.

Based on the bestseller by Gregory Maguire which took its inspiration from the creations of L. Frank Baum brought so vividly to life in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, the production at the Apollo Victoria Theatre is taking bookings up to Saturday 4 November 2017.

Wicked currently stars Rachel Tucker (Elphaba), Suzie Mathers (Glinda), Oliver Savile (Fiyero), Anita Dobson (Madame Morrible), Mark Curry (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Idriss Kargbo (Boq), Alice Fearn (Standby for Elphaba) and Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda).

The show’s producers also announced that Rachel Tucker, Anita Dobson and Katie Rowley Jones leave early next year with their last appearances on Saturday 28 January 2017.

From Monday 30 January 2017, international Wicked star Willemijn Verkaik will return to play Elphaba (a role she has previously played in Germany, Holland, on Broadway and in the West End) with Sue Kelvin returning to play Madame Morrible and Sarah McNicholas joining the company to play Nessarose.

The hit show, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in the capital, is currently the ninth longest-running show in the West End and the 19th longest-running show in West End theatre history.

The multi award-winning tale of the witches of Oz has now been seen in London by more than seven million people and by 50 million people in 14 countries and has won over 100 major awards.

Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy award winner Stephen Schwartz (Disney’s Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. Musical staging is by double Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello.
