Magical musical Wicked has overtaken Billy Elliot The Musical to become the 16th longest-running show in London theatre history.

With two extra matinees added this month, on Thursday 17 August and Thursday 24 August, the record-breaking musical will play its 4,567th performance tonight (Tuesday 1 August) at its London home, the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Now in its 11th year in the capital, Wicked has been seen by more than 8 million people in London alone. While continuing its open-ended London run, the touring version of the show will return in January 2018 to play ten UK and Ireland cities.

With Alice Fearn and Sophie Evans in the central roles of Elphaba and Glinda after joining the London production in late July, the current cast includes Bradley Jaden (Fiyero), Melanie La Barrie (Madame Morrible), Andy Hockley (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Sarah McNicholas (Nessarose), Jack Lansbury (Boq), Laura Pick (Standby for Elphaba) and Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda).

Based on the best-seller by Gregory Maguire, which took its inspiration from the creations of L. Frank Baum brought so vividly to life in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, the production at the Apollo Victoria Theatre is taking bookings up to May 2018.

Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz and was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. Musical staging is by double Tony Award winner Joe Mantello.
