Former pop star and Strictly favourite Louise Redknapp will make her stage debut as Sally Bowles in this autumn’s nationwide tour of Rufus Norris’ acclaimed revival of Cabaret.
Opening at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Thursday 21 September, the show will also star former Pop Idol Will Young who will once again play the Emcee, the role he performed when he made his West End debut in Norris’ multi award-winning production.
Presented by Bill Kenwright, the tour will visit Blackpool, Cardiff, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Salford, Edinburgh, Bromley and Brighton.
Directed by National Theatre artistic director Norris and featuring the choreography of Javier de Frutos, the production has enjoyed two West End runs at the Lyric (in 2006) and the Savoy (in 2012) and collected two Olivier Awards.
Based on a 1939 book by Christopher Isherwood and a play by John Van Druten, Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
The show’s Broadway debut in 1966 was followed by its first appearance in London’s West End two years later with Judi Dench taking on the role of Sally Bowles.
Bob Fosse’s film version in 1972 collected eight Oscars including the Best Actress Award for Liza Minnelli’s iconic and career-making performance as Sally Bowles.
