Tickets have gone on sale for a major new production of Kander and Ebb’s Cabaret timed to mark Holocaust Memorial Day when it opens at Aberdeen’s Arts Centre Theatre on 27 January 2016.

Current West End stars Carolyn Maitland (Miss Saigon) and Lucas Rush (American Idiot) will play the lead roles of Sally Bowles and the Emcee in the show which launches a new partnership between ACT Aberdeen and the producer/director team of David Adkin and Derek Anderson (the recent award winning Off-West End production of Sweeney Todd).

Director Anderson will take on the task of transforming the venue in his home city of Aberdeen into the infamous German nightclub, complete with cabaret-style formation of tables and chairs to create a truly unique and immersive theatrical experience.

Anderson said: “I am thrilled that we can create this striking production of Cabaret in Aberdeen. With an outstanding cast of professional actors combined with local performers, and by completely transforming the theatre into the intimate nightclub setting, the audience will be thrust straight into the dangerous and decadent world of 1930s Berlin. Cabaret is going to be a truly unforgettable theatrical event.”

ACT Aberdeen’s artistic director Paula Gibson said: “This exciting new project will create unique opportunities for Aberdeen-based talent to perform this iconic show and raise awareness of the victims of the Nazi holocaust. Working with a London-based production team has been a great learning experience for us, and will be for the local cast members as they rehearse and perform alongside West End theatre professionals. I’m delighted to have Derek returning to his first theatrical home, and look forward to welcoming back future professionals who may be starting their journeys from our community theatre stage.’’

Carolyn Maitland (Sally Bowles) is currently playing the lead role of Ellen in Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre. Her previous credits include the West End productions of From Here to Eternity, Kiss Me, Kate and Legally Blonde.

Alex Wadham (Ernst Ludwig) is currently playing Giles in the 60th anniversary production of The Mousetrap.

Jonathan Vickers (Cliff Bradshaw) is originally from Aberdeen. He recently appeared as Perkins/ understudy Edward Lyons in the UK Tour of Blood Brothers. Previous credits include The War of the Worlds, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Zombie Prom, Singin’ in the Rain and Calamity Jane.
