London’s Union Theatre is to produce the premiere of a brand new British musical, Duncton Wood, playing 27 May to 20 June 2015.
Written by Mark Carroll (music and lyrics) and James Peries (book), adapted from the bestselling novel by William Horwood, Duncton Wood is an epic musical (the the novel was described by the Washington Post as “a breathtaking achievement”).
Magical, lyrical and dramatic this story of faith wars, youthful romance, freedom fighters, and deep friendship plays out in the animal kingdom. When Duncton Wood falls under a tyrant’s reign, the old beliefs and nature itself are under threat. For young Bracken, and the few others with courage, exile may be just the beginning of a long road home…
Directed by Michael Strassen, named Best Director at the 2014 Off West End Awards for Billy at the Union Theatre, the production has orchestrations by Michael England, vocal arrangements by David Steadman, musical direction from Josh Sood, set design by Jean Gray and lighting design by Tim Deiling.
