The Puppini Sisters performed at the Festival Schamloser Kultur in Stadstaal, Vienna.

The Puppini Sisters returned to Vienna for two gigs as part of the Festival Schamloser Kultur (Festival of Shameless Culture). The trio celebrated with songs from all of their albums released so far and a few more surprises.

Marcella Puppini, Kate Mullins and newest group member Emily Smith proved that they are a real treat on stage and that swing isn’t dead at all. Their repertoire ranged from standards such as ‘I Got Rhythm’ to Blondie’s ‘Heart of Glass’ to a beautiful rendition of ‘Moon River’, as well as songs from their latest album Hollywood. All three impressed vocally (individually as well in harmony together) and surprised with their ability to play instruments too. Furthermore, the majority of the songs were carefully choreographed. They were accompanied by a three-piece band (that was a bit too loud at times) who joined them as dancers in one of the encores at the end of the show too.

The Puppini Sisters have created a new and unique musical style which we will hopefully hear more of in the future. There aren’t many groups like this around, so I hope to hear some new material soon (their last album was released in 2011).
