Ryan Scott Oliver’s innovative 35mm: A Musical Exhibition will play The Other Palace Studio for a limited two-week run this autumn.
Inspired by the distinctive work of renowned Broadway photographer Matthew Murphy, the multi-media rock musical will play the new London venue from 18 until 30 September with a press night on Wednesday 20 September.
Described as a ‘re-imagining’ of the modern American musical, 35mm: A Musical Exhibition weaves together a collection of stories and songs each linked to the content of a single striking photograph.
Written by multi award-winning composer Oliver who worked closely with New York-based photographer Murphy on the project, 35mm: A Musical Exhibition will be re-imagined for its London run.
Commenting on the new production, Oliver said: “35mm: A Musical Exhibition came from a desire to explore visual and aural stories in a variety of ways, and it’s vital that the show be ‘re-created’ for each version and space. I look forward to bringing this provocative piece to London audiences!”
Directed by new musical theatre specialist Adam Lenson, 35mm: A Musical Exhibition features vocal arrangements and orchestrations by Oliver with additional percussion arrangements by Jeremy Yaddaw and additional guitar arrangements by Matt Hinkley. Casting for the production will be announced at a later date.
