Olivier Award winner Rebecca Trehearn will star in the UK premiere of a new version of the Stephen Schwartz musical Rags at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre in March.
Recently seen in the hit Nottingham Playhouse production of Sweet Charity, Trehearn (Show Boat, Sheffield Crucible and West End, City of Angels, Donmar Warehouse) will be joined by Valda Aviks, Gavin James, Sam Peggs, Jane Quinn, Michael S. Siegel, Robert Tripolino, Tim Walton, Lydia White, Lochlan White and George Varley. Completing the cast are James Dangerfield, Emma Fraser, James Hastings and Hanna Khogali.
Directed by Hope Mill regular Bronagh Lagan (Little Women, Putting It Together), Rags will play the Ancoats venue from 2 March until 6 April 2019 with a press night on 7 March.
Musical direction and new orchestrations will be by Nick Barstow with choreography by Grant Murphy, set design by Gregor Donnelly, costume design by Maggie Harwood, lighting design by Derek Anderson, sound design by James Nicholson and casting by Jane Deitch.
With a book by Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof), lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and music by Charles Strouse (Annie), Rags is the story of a Russian immigrant who travels to America with her son in search of a better life. The show debuted on Broadway in 1986.
Presented by arrangement with MTI Europe, Rags will be produced by Hope Aria in association with Matthew Hopton of Knockhardy productions.
