As the country faces its darkest days since the Second World War, one of our industry’s leading figures Andrew Lloyd Webber is on a one-man mission to offer some brightness and hope to the nation.
Using the hashtag #ComposerInIsolation Lloyd Webber has been putting his time at home to good use by rallying fans and fellow artists with a series of solo performances, Twitter challenges and singalongs.
Summarising his online activities during the lockdown, accompanied by links to videos of the composer in action along with star friends including Nile Rodgers and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lloyd Webber has posted the following message:
HELLO EVERYBODY. With everyone spending more time at home, music and arts are more important than ever. I have always believed that music can empower people, so this to me seems like the perfect opportunity for people to explore their creativity, After all, home is where the music is!
Following on from Sunday’s social media singalong performance of ‘Hosanna’ from Jesus Christ Superstar, the composer is inviting theatre-lovers to tune in every Sunday to see which Lloyd Webber favourite will be the next singalong choice.
Offering a link to the newly launched YouTube channel featuring some of his most popular shows, the composer reminded fans that the second production scheduled for release on Good Friday (10 April 2020) is the arena version of Jesus Christ Superstar featuring Tim Minchin, Melanie C and Chris Moyles.
As one of the many across the country working from home, Lloyd Webber includes a link to the website for his delayed world premiere of Cinderella and invites fans to “stay tuned for sneak previews in the coming weeks”.
The website www.andrewlloydwebber.com also includes links to videos of the composer’s Twitter play-offs with Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Chic’s Nile Rodgers.
Fans can also head for Spotify to listen to Lloyd Webber’s Motivation Playlist which is packed with ‘feel-good’ hits from all of his musicals.
