ONE VOICE – Siobhan Dillon (Apple, Amazon and Spotify – £7.99)
Star rating: five stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
If I could give this more than five stars I certainly would. I was absolutely blown away by this album. When I review albums I have a method: I put it on while I am doing something else, I then replay it listening to it with no distractions, then I re-listen, again with no distractions. On this occasion, halfway into the first track on the first listen, I gave up what I was doing as I was completely mesmerised by Siobhan’s voice. OMG – what an absolutely beautiful album from start to finish.
Siobhan’s voice has a tone like no other and the feeling behind the tracks are total – no sign of acting here – they all appear to come directly from the heart. I have to be frank and tell you I hadn’t really seen a great deal of Siobhan’s performances, but now I am one of her biggest fans.
Tracks on the album include: ‘Everyone’s Waiting’; ‘Let the Words Escape’; ‘She Used to Be Mine’; ‘It Must Have Been Love’; ‘Mad World’; ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’; ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’; ‘Already Gone’; ‘Broken Vow’; ‘Without You’ and ‘Promise Me’.
When I saw the track list I have to admit I thought – oh no, those old chestnuts included to pad things out. But no, they ALL work. Even ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ – how many versions of that have you heard over the years? Well, I can assure you right now that this version will touch the heartstrings like no other.
Apart from being a wonderful album, Siobhan has released it in support of The Breast Cancer Haven charity, having come through her own personal battle with the cancer in 2005. So, my advice to you is to get this album downloaded, sit back and relax and let it pour over you like a rich velvet blanket.
