The recent concert version of new show Catfish The Musical will be streamed exclusively on Broadway On Demand and Stream.Theatre on 31 October and 1 November 2020.
Featuring rising stars/students who in most cases were making their debuts, the one-night only performance was the closing production in September’s Turbine On The Jetty festival of live entertainment presented by London’s Turbine Theatre on a safe and socially distanced jetty next to Battersea Power Station.
A dark comedy about social media and online dating, Catfish The Musical was created online by the creative manager of the Musical Theatre Appreciation Society, Willy Mukendi, and composer Joseph Purdue. The pair met for the first time at the rehearsal for the original album of songs from the show which was released earlier this year.
Championed by the Turbine Theatre’s artistic director Paul Taylor-Mills, the concert version of the musical was produced by Taylor-Mills with direction and choreography by Mukendi and additional choreography by Lee Proud.
Commenting on the show, Mukendi said: “We have been so fortunate to have received consistent support from conception stages, right up until professional performances. During lockdown we, like many others, have had some opportunities cancelled and others postponed.
“One thing that never changed was our creative process. We have grown so accustomed to communicating online that nothing really changed creatively during lockdown for us. Creating this show online with a cast our size felt impossible at times, so we are so thrilled that we were able to continue and now provide this digital experience for those who weren’t able to get tickets.”
A portion of each ticket sale will be donated to arts mental health support platform, Industry Minds.
