Music Show Wedding continues at C venues, Edinburgh until 26 August.
It may be unexpected to say that the future of musical theatre is safe in the hands of the Koreans, but it is a nation with a fantastic array of major theatres presenting great classics from the West End and Broadway. The people there love to be entertained and to enjoy a good love story, Korea has phenomenally polished and passionate performers, it is nurturing a new generation of fine composers and it brings to a rapturous toe-tapping audience feel-good shows like Music Show Wedding.
We are invited to a wedding. All the characters you expect are there including a very unhappy Father of the Bride. The cast are the first-class band. The rock‘n’roll songs and evergreen classics are delivered with phenomenal energy and high-level musical skill, and a packed audience is having a ball. It wears its heart on its sleeve, and offers us top performances from a cracking ensemble who have us in the palm of their hand. Does it push the art-form forward? No, not really. Does it entertain? Most definitely. And it will travel well with universal themes and global classic songs.
