A troupe of 14 actor-musicians will take audiences on a journey back to the Victorian music hall inside a vintage Speigel tent this summer with a touring production of Leslie Bricusse’s The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes!
Innovative company Morphic Graffiti will bring the immersive production to UK audiences from August, launching in Leicester followed by Coventry and Birmingham with further locations to be confirmed.
Director Pip Minnithorpe heads a creative team that includes designer Stewart J Charlesworth, lighting designer Zoe Spurr, choreographer Sundeep Saini and magic consultant Thomas Moore with orchestrations and musical supervision by Dan De Cruz.
A tale of the great detective, his loyal sidekick Dr Watson and Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty, the show mixes live music genres, puppetry, ballet, comedy and illusions. Casting and a full list of venues and dates will be announced soon.
The touring production has been designed to avoid many of the problems faced by traditional venues during the pandemic by making use of the large and well-ventilated space offered by the spacious Spiegel tent provided and managed by The Theatre Tent Company. The tour will have its own dedicated compliance officer to ensure the highest safety standards and best practices are adhered to at all times.
Morphic Graffiti’s association with Bricusse’s Sherlock Holmes musical began when the internationally acclaimed writer approached the company after seeing the team’s first show, a critically-acclaimed version of Frank Wildhorn and Bricusse’s Jekyll and Hyde in 2012.
The company worked with Bricusse to re-work and revise his 1988 work Sherlock Holmes – The Musical. The retitled The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes!, set in a Victorian music hall and featuring new and previously unperformed material, was first presented in London in 2013. The production was nominated for three Off-West End Awards including Best Musical Production.
