Olivier Award winners Sharon D Clarke and Matt Henry and TV favourite Catherine Tate are among a host of stage and screen stars featuring in a virtual reading for new children’s book Broadway Baby.
Celebrating the Official London Theatre Kids Week and in support of the Theatre Artists Fund, the online reading of the best-selling illustrated book written by UK and West End theatre operator and producer Russell Miller with Judith A. Proffer is now available to watch.
Triple Olivier Award winner Clarke (The Amen Corner, Caroline, Or Change, Death of a Salesman), Henry (an Olivier Award winner for his West End debut performance in Kinky Boots), and multi-award-winning actor, comedian and writer Tate appear alongside Madalena Alberto (Evita, Cats), Norman Bowman (Grease, Guys and Dolls), Adam Cooper (Grand Hotel, Singin’ in the Rain), Kerry Ellis (We Will Rock You, Wicked), Simon Anthony Roden (Hamilton, The Color Purple), Jo Servi (The Lion King, Chess), Suzanne Shaw (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Rocky Horror Show) and Claire Sweeney (Guys and Dolls, Chicago).
Illustrated by award-winning illustrator and artist Yoko Matsuoka, Broadway Baby was released by Meteor 17 Books in October 2020, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each book purchased from BroadwayBabyBook.com going to the Theatre Artists Fund.
Describing the book which was inspired by his search for a theatre-themed gift for his producing partner’s newborn daughter, Olivia, Miller said: “Broadway Baby was born of necessity. I felt there was a real need to create something authentically theatrical that would resonate with theatre lovers and children of all ages, something unique and sincere that serves as a special VIP invitation to join our magical world of theater-land.”
Commenting on the star-studded reading of his work, Miller added: “The virtual reading unites some of the UK’s most talented performers for theatre fans everywhere to enjoy. I’m so grateful to everyone who has generously given their time to read Broadway Baby for this special event in celebration of Official London Theatre Kids Week, supporting The Theatre Artists Fund.”
