Award-winning new musical RIDE will receive its world premiere at Charing Cross Theatre next month. Featuring music, book and lyrics by Freya Catrin Smith and Jack Williams and directed by Sarah Meadows, the first full-scale production of the musical will play the London venue from 25 August until 17 September 2022.
Inspired by the true story of Annie Londonderry, the first woman to cycle around the world, the musical will star 2021 Royal Academy Music graduate Liv Andrusier (Play In A Day, Sky Arts) as Annie and 2021 Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate Yuki Sutton (Tokyo Rose, Southwark Playhouse/UK tour) as Annie’s secretary, Martha Smith. The cast is completed by Amy Parker (Tokyo Rose, Southwark Playhouse/UK tour) as alternate Annie and cover Martha.
Presented by Deus Ex Machina Productions, the creative team for the production also includes designer Amy Jane Cook, movement director and choreographer Natasha Harrison, musical director Sam Young, orchestrator Macy Schmidt, lighting designer Jamie Platt, sound designer Andy Johnson and assistant director Olivia Munk.
The winner of a VAULT Festival Show of the Week Award and an Offie OFFCOM Award, RIDE’s title song was nominated for the 2020 Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize. RIDE was nominated for the Best Musical Theatre Book Writing in the 2022 Writers Guild Awards.
