Alice Ellen Wright and Luke Harley will join the cast of composer Alexander S. Bermange’s I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical as the award-winning musical returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
Wright (Les Misérables, West End) and Harley (The Producers, UK and international tour) will join Hannah Taylor (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, London Palladium) and Harry Winchester (Pirate Queen, London Coliseum). The previously announced cast members Carl Douglas (Jersey Boys, Trafalgar Theatre) and Grace Farrell (Les Misérables, Sondheim Theatre) are no longer available.
A West End Wilma Award-winner for Best Cabaret, the show which received its world premiere in 2018 at London entertainment hub Live At Zédel at Crazy Coqs and first played a sold-out run in Edinburgh in 2019, will play the Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose (The Other Yin) from 3-28 August 2022.
Headed by composer, lyricist and musical director Bermange, the creative team also includes director and choreographer Joanna Goodwin, associate director and choreographer Holly Prentice and co-arranger Jerome van den Berghe.
Musical comedy composer Bermange’s audience and critic pleasing show offers a glimpse behind the scenes into the world of eager young drama school graduates, demanding divas, awful auditions, backstage backstabbing and showstopping moments.
A further production of I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical will be opening in Basel, Switzerland in September this year, following on from two separate versions in 2021 – one running in Seoul, South Korea, and the other filmed in London for online streaming.
A regular contributor to BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service, Bermange’s writing credits include musicals The Route To Happiness, Thirteen Days and the multi-award winning Shadowless. The writer has also topped the iTunes comedy album chart with ‘Whit & Whimsy’ a collection of his songs recorded by a star-studded line-up of stage and screen favourites.
