Musical Theatre Review‘s Roy Tan was one of the few photographers to capture images of the production
The London premiere of the musical comedy Molly Wobbly’s Tit Factory by Paul Boyd, due to run at Hackney Empire from 20 September to 5 October, has been cancelled following ‘unforeseen financial difficulties’.
A statement from the show’s press representatives said: “Hackney Empire regrets that the producers of Molly Wobbly’s Tit Factory, Big Wobbly Productions Ltd, have had to cancel the forthcoming run of performances from 20 September–5 October 2013 at Hackney Empire, due to their unforeseen financial difficulties.
“Hackney Empire are disappointed both for themselves and for a very talented company.”
Having commented on Twitter that he had spoken to Hackney Empire’s chief executive, The Stage newspaper reporter Matthew Hemley wrote that one of the show’s investors had allegedly pulled out a few days ago.
Actress Sophie-Louise Dann, who was due to appear in the show, confirmed this on Facebook, writing: “As you know I am a great advocate of new work. Here was a fresh, zany original piece by the wonderful Paul Boyd which, admirably, was being presented as a full-scale production privately funded. Not a revival in a studio space where the company were unpaid. At the eleventh hour a major backer pulled their funding. That’s it, that’s all. No ructions, no rifts, no mystery.”
Directed by Boyd, the production was originally at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and subsequently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year.
In the cast were Gary Wilmot, Sophie-Louise Dann, Samuel Buttery, Shona White, Conleth Kane, Stephanie Fearon, Christopher Finn and Russell Morton.
