Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera star John Owen-Jones discusses his new role in “insane” Great British Bake Off: The Musical on Episode Two of The Mayor of Musical Theatre podcast.
The Mayor of Musical Theatre – a brand-new podcast produced in association with Musical Theatre Review as part of its tenth anniversary celebrations – has welcomed West End superstar John Owen-Jones for its second episode.
Host Ian Bowkett is a theatre writer/photographer and the composer of recent cult favourites The Sam Neill Experience: A Dance Musical and Sisyphus: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Musical.
Each week, he will pretend to be a mayor (for reasons unclear) and talk to a celebrity guest about their favourite musicals. After choosing a show for each of the mayor’s categories (funniest musical, best movie musical, etc.), the guest will decide on one show that, as mayor, Bowkett should order run in the West End forever.
In episode two, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera superstar John Owen-Jones discusses being incredulous at the very idea of a musical based on the popular TV baking competition, The Great British Bake Off. However, as you will hear on the episode, he was won around by glowing endorsements from those involved and the quality of the songs and script.
