Cameron Mackintosh will bring Broadway’s latest homegrown hit Shucked to the West End in 2024.
In a statement confirming the show’s imminent arrival in London, Mackintosh said: “I’m delighted to confirm that London is going to get Shucked in one of my theatres next year! Shucked is that rarity: a completely original musical and the funniest show since The Book of Mormon, with a terrifically tuneful rollicking country and western score. It’s snuck up on Broadway and is proving to be the most talked about hit of the season. The corn at the heart of Shucked will have you husky with limitless laughter!”
Casting and the London theatre which will host the musical will be announced at a later date.
The show, described as a hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical, has a book by Robert Horn, and music and lyrics by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. Directed by Jack O’Brien, the Broadway production which opened at the Nederlander Theatre in April received nine Tony Award nominations (Alex Newell won in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical category), 12 Drama Desk Awards, seven Outer Critics Circle Awards and three Drama League Awards.
The production also features choreography by Sarah O’Gleby with music supervision, music direction, orchestrations and arrangements by Jason Howland, scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, sound design by John Shivers, wig design by Mia Neal and casting by Stephen Kopel of C12 Casting.
The ‘Shucked – Original Broadway Cast Recording’ is available on all streaming platforms. The album is produced by Jason Howland, Billy Jay Stein, and the show’s composers Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark.
