The cult movie musical Grease 2 will finally make the transition from screen to stage with a one-off concert version on Monday, 27 January 2014 at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.
Telling the love story of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone and English transfer student Michael Carrington, Grease 2 follows their road to romance from bowling alley to burger joint, sing-a-long-a-sex education class to talent show, and long, romantic motorcycle rides to a slightly incongruous luau ending. Featuring the songs ‘Who’s That Guy?’, ‘Score Tonight’, ‘Cool Rider’, ‘Girl For All Seasons’ and ‘Rock-a-Hula Luau (Summer Is Coming)’, Grease 2 In Concert celebrates the infamous styles, moves and wheels of Rydell High School.
Based on the 1982 movie of the same name, Paramount Pictures released Grease 2 in the wake of the huge popularity of its filmic predecessor. Despite being produced by Allan Carr and Robert Stigwood and featuring a cast headed by Michelle Pfeifer and Maxwell Caulfield, it failed to ignite the box office. However, the film quickly became a firm favourite amongst cult movie and musical fans.
Christopher D Clegg, who co-produces Grease 2 with James DP Drury, said: “James and I are delighted to be bringing the UK’s first live concert staging of Grease 2 to the West End next year. As huge fans of the film, it has been a dream of ours to produce a live incarnation complete with an amazing cast backed by a live band performing the full score, plus some additional scenes written especially for the show.”
