Theatre Movement Bazaar’s new musical Tiny Little Town at the Bedlam Theatre has received a Special Commendation from the Musical Theatre Review Best Musical Award panel at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024.
The panel was so impressed by the standard and quality of the nominees that they decided to award an additional commendation.
The MTR team couldn’t recommended this hilarious, detailed, skilled and thoroughly entertaining, tight 90-minute show highly enough.
Tiny Little Town was praised for being packed with great songs, unique choreography and above all superb ensemble work.
MTR’s Edinburgh editor Fiona Orr’s five-star review commented: “Laugh out loud funny, this bizarre take on The Government Inspector is brilliant: choreography, direction, design and performance are all ‘turned up to 11’.”
Tiny Little Town is a new musical comedy reimagining Ukrainian playwright, Nikolai Gogol’s 19th century satire The Government Inspector. In the show a small town in 1970s America is thrown into chaos when its corrupt bureaucrats 
mistakenly identify a visiting stranger as a Government Inspector sent from Washington DC to investigate their town.
The show is a hilarious and timely indictment of corruption, conspiracy mongers and crooked bureaucrats.
The Los Angeles-based Theatre Movement Bazaar (TMB) returned to Edinburgh this year, having fast become a Fringe favourite with its inventive adaptations and high energy performances.
The company has built its repertoire re-imagining classic literature with its unique mixture of text, movement and dance.
TMB co-founders, choreographer/director/performer Tina Kronis and mechanical engineer/writer Richard Alger, have joined forces with composer Wes Myers to create the new musical.
Alger added: “Thanks so much for the honor. We are thrilled. The entire company is singing and dancing with joy! We love what we do and are delighted to be recognised by your respected organisation. It was such a joy and surprise to receive this award on our last night. What a fantastic way for us to close our amazing experience at the Bedlam Theatre during Fringe 2024!”
