X Factor champion turned musical theatre star Matt Cardle will step into the role of Charlie Price when a new production of the Olivier, Grammy and Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots marches into the London Coliseum in March.
Cardle (& Juliet, UK and Ireland tour, Memphis, Shaftesbury Theatre) will star alongside Strictly Come Dancing favourite Johannes Radebe as Lola in the production which will play a 17-week season from 17 March to 11 July 2026 (with a week of previews at Curve Leicester from 3 March).
Tosh Wanogho-Maud (Titanique, Charing Cross Theatre, Dream Girls, Savoy Theatre) – the current Lola in the European leg of the touring production – will also join the Coliseum cast as Alternate Lola.
Commenting on his latest role, Cardle said: “I am absolutely over the moon to be joining the cast of Kinky Boots on London’s biggest stage. Theatre has been a huge part of my career so far, and leading a cast alongside Johannes Radebe at the London Coliseum is a huge honour. Kinky Boots is a show I’ve loved for years so to get the opportunity to step into the role of Charlie Price is a dream come true. Bringing this iconic role to life in the West End is an incredible privilege, and I cannot wait to share this production with audiences.”
Directed by Nikolai Foster, the production is choreographed by Leah Hill, with set and costume design by Robert Jones, costume design by Robert Jones and Tom Rogers, musical supervision by George Dyer, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Adam Fisher, casting by Harry Blumenau and wigs, hair and make-up design by Campbell Young Associates with associate direction by Michaela Powell and production management by Setting Line.
An instant favourite with theatregoers, the exuberant show based on the hit Miramax film (written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth and inspired by a true story) has a book by Broadway legend and quadruple Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles) and songs by Grammy and Tony-winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper.
The original production of Kinky Boots The Musical, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, arrived on Broadway in 2013 where it was nominated for a record 13 Tony Awards, winning six including Best Musical. In the UK, the musical debuted in the West End in 2015, winning three Oliviers including Best New Musical.
